Ivan's life was cut short by AIDS at age 39. Ivan was an exceptionally talented musician, an inspired leader and a true visionary. He worked his entire life to promote music and the arts, and to develop the talents of young people as well as adults.

Ivan believed that everyone has unlimited creative and artistic ability. His dream was to provide an environment where the love of music could be nurtured, where students could perform with joy, and where their creativity and sense of self could flourish. To this end, he surrounded himself with uniquely qualified teachers, friends and community leaders who together, with love and caring dedication, created and built the Greensboro Music Academy in Greensboro, N.C.

The Ivan Battle Memorial Fund was established in 1996 to further his hopes and ideals. One hundred percent of funds are designated for three areas of AIDS Services Foundation: pediatric AIDS, couseling of AIDS patients and their families, and music therapy for those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. ASF was selected because of it's outstanding reputation in providing services to HIV/AIDS patients and their families.
