Robert Bernard Diggle, Sr.

(1914-1993)

Robert Bernard Diggle, Sr. was born August 13, 1914, at Mercy Hospital, Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the fourth child and third son of Samuel L. Diggle and Marie Louise Cobb. He was baptized September 13, 1914 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. his god-parents were his great-aunt, Annie Grose and Frank Zieman.

Robert attended O'Donoghue School, Piedmont Junior High School and Central High School, all in Charlotte. He then attended Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute, Beck County, PA.

Robert and Louise Keasler eloped to York, South Carolina on June 14, 1935. On July 6, 1935 they were married again at the rectory of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Their five children are:

Robert served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was stationed in India as part of the Burma campaign. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

Robert was a manufacturer's representative for varied appliance corporations with sales territories throughout the South. After his retirement in 1984 he worked as an independent contractor for Metromail, Atlanta, GA.

Robert died at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC at five minutes of ten a.m. Sunday, August 29, 1993. He is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Charlotte, NC.
